Country, language and people

The name of the country, the language and the people of that country are different words. Names of languages take het: het Nederlands.

de Nederlanders	the Dutch (people)
Wat betekent Nederland? – Laag land.	What does "Nederland" mean? – Low country.

Directions (de richtingen)

To say where a country is in relation to another country, you use ten …en van: ten zuiden van (south of …), ten oosten van (east of …).
